Financing Clean Energy Scale-up in the Mekong Region

Presentation of Finnish Offering in the Energy Sector by Helena Saren (Business Finland)  

About 60 professionals in clean energy project development and financing from the Mekong region participated in the workshop.

The workshop was opened by H.E.Mika Lintilä – Minister of Economic Affairs – Government of Finland, who emphasized the importance of clean energy deployment for sustainable economic development in the Mekong region, in his opening speech. The workshop was opened in the presence of H.E. Ms.Satu Suikkari-Kleven, Ambassador of Finland to Thailand.

The workshop started with a panel discussion on the perspectives on ‘Development and Financing Clean Energy Projects in the Mekong Region’. The panel consisted of representatives from Finnfund, Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI – Korea/Vietnam), Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (China) and three project developers and from Thailand (TBEC, The Creagy Co.Ltd.) and Myanmar (Indigo Energy). The panel discussion was moderated by Tero Tapio Raassina from GGGI in Vietnam.

The introduction of eight clean energy related technology and service providers from Finland was made by Helena Saren (Programme Director, Energy – Business Finland), providing an overview of ‘Finnish Offering in the Energy Industry’. The introduction presentation was followed by short presentations of the company representatives, highlighting the technologies and services available from their organisations.

The afternoon session was filled by the presentation of 15 project pitches from project developers in the Mekong region. The project pitches were prepared by the respective developers with the guidance and professional support for RCU EEP Mekong.

The project pitches found pronounced interest by the investors present in the workshop. The setting for in-depth discussions between project developers and investors was provided thru a networking reception at the final hour of the workshop. The workshop concluded with the news, that several project developers agreed on follow-up activities with investors and technology providers from Finland, which was the objective of the workshop.
